Update (June 28): Diablo 3 has been announced at the WWI in Paris. You can now review the Diablo 3 trailer, screenshots, as well as demo.
The characters that appeared in the Diablo 3 announcement were the Barbarian and the Witch Doctor.
I just looked at the stats for my Diablo 2 site. The two most popular characters on the site are the sorceress and the barbarian. Popular in the sense people are looking for specific skill guides and even saves.
I’m wondering which characters will make it to Diablo 3? A pure spell caster should be available, i.e. a sorceror or sorceress of some kind. Then, we need the classic sword – call him barbarian, gladiator, whatever. Blizzard has shown a knack for good (and balanced) mixed breeds – like the Druid or the Paladin.
Looking at the World of Warcraft characters, if Blizzard wants to turn Diablo 3 into a MMORPG they should put a healer of some sort as well. There’s none in the Diablo 2 universe.

stop complaining, if you dont like the new diablo, then dont play.
if you are too close minded and loves to stick to your old games, then stick with it. go play old diablo 1 until you grow old.
diablo 2 is much better than diablo 1, although i thought Bhaal ingame looks a bit different from the cinematics.. which is weird.
anyway diablo 2 is a good game. lots of people criticize yet still play the game. people who compares that diablo 1 is grimmer than diablo 2. it has a better story line than d2, etc etc.. you are just too closed minded and hates changes or new stuffs.
if blizzard made diablo 2 similiar as diablo 1, that would be f&*#, why bother making d2 if its the same as d1. so all those who keeps complaining, go play your old diablo 1 until you grow old. while we enjoy playing diablo2 and the new diablo3.
oh yeah, diablo3 will be great, everyone who played the demo were amazed so stop complaining and stfu.

I didn´t played D1, and played D2 only 4 to 5 years. But if I know one thing, it is that a game has to have a good story and atmosphere. The Story in D2 is not really bad, but it would be great, if D3 has a better one. I won´t buy it if its like wow. besides I think that it would be a good thing to combine D1 and 2. It would be good too, if there would be some “Mage Clan” (Or others, Warrior Gild for example) you´d have to join to get skills. The Charackter´s looking (skin color and so on) should be choiceable before game starts, and the skills should be got by winning against other People of the Townsfolk in a “Training Area” or such, to earn their respect.
I have a question to this one who has written that the game is nearly finished an why someguy think that he can change it now:

there is a theory that d3 will come out 09/09/09 if you’ve read the theory it makes soo much sense. but i think the release date should be today. cause even if it does suck itll still be better than playing gta or some gay game like that.

well i like diablo 2 great game not so much graphic wise but still great game and the way to get new gear made me angrey make it more like an mmo or like an action game ether way its will be good
